Chrysler Repair: Power steering Switch replacement on 1999 Sebring 2.5 v6, dexron ii, chrysler sebring

Question
Hello... I have a 2.5L V6 Chrysler Sebring 2-door which was diagnosed with power steering switch problem by the dealer. I was wondering if you can help me in guiding me where the switch is located on my car and how to replace it? i assume it is not to complicated as dealer wanted to charge me for one-hour job plus part. The car is running fine right now but check engine light keeps flashing. please help, Thanks a bunch.

Answer
Hi Boban,
My manual shows the swictch to be located on the body of the power steering pump, specifically the top side of it, directly behind the pulley. You can notice it as the only item that has an electrical wire attached to it. It appears to be removable with a socket of the appropriate size. Note the way that the spring beneath the switch is oriented as you are removing it, and also lubricate the O-ring with Dexron II tranmission fluid which is also what is used in the power steering system. You might want to check the wiring to the switch visually before you buy and replace the part to assure that the switch itself is the problem. Otherwise, just buy a new switch and install it. Let me know if you have any problem locating it or removing/installing it.

P.S. The whole assembly consist of switch piston, a spring against which it pushes and a terminal plug with O-ring seal. You will be removing the terminal plug and then the spring will be under that and finally the switch piston. The spring is installed with the larger end pointing up.
