Chrysler Repair: 1992 Labaron Conv Windshield Wipers wont turn off, windshield wiper motor, windshield wipers

Question
Roland,

I just bought a 1992 Labaron LX conv with 99,000 miles.  Body, suspension, engine, trans, top all mostly work fine but there are some strange electrical issues.  The most pressing problem is the interminent windshield wipers will not turn off.  Even after turning off the iginition and locking the car you can still hear a clicking from under the dash and when the iginition is turned back on the wipers wipe to each click.  The gas gage goes on and off, the temp gage is stuck on one bar and the message / alarm / warning lights in the top center of the dash up by the windwhield don't work.

I tried to be sure to read all your "previous questions" and am able to resolve almost all my other Labaron problems with your previous terrific advise. Sure hope you can figure this out.

Kendall

Answer
Hi Kendall,
I would suggest that you start at the body computer, under the dash or I should say to the right of the dash on the passenger side. If you look on the panel that is to the right of the passenger's right shin you will see a module with two plugs on the top of it. Demount the module and remove the plugs and inspect the plugs and sockets for the intrusion of water and dirt. Try to clean away any debris and then spray the plugs and sockets with electronic contact cleaner from a spray can (available at an electronic supply store). This is the body computer which mediates between the wiper motor and the wiper switch. It is subject to malfunction when water drips on it due to leaks around the windshield above it. Various electrical "gremlins" can be caused by this intrusion.
If that doesn't cure the problem then it will be necessary to remove the windshield wiper motor and examine the "park" function. But try the body control first. On the cluster problems let me know if you have the conventional analog or the electronic type. On the message center check fuse #11 and then remove the unit and see if you are getting 12V on the red wire, or not, when the ignition switch is 'on'.
Then write back with any results.
