Motorcycle Repair: shovel oilpump, gasket material, scavanger

Question
i have an early cast iron oil pump on my generator STD cases. the gasket i installed had one passage hole above the scavanger gears. when i removed it after running it a short time i noticed that gasket was bulging with a slight tear over a port next to the factory cut hole in gasket. should i remove the gasket material covering the second port?  all the gaskets i have bought are cut the same ( one passage). any help will be great . thanks, john

Answer
As long as you are sure you have the correct gasket you will be fine. Dont worry about cutting the gasket. There are a few points on the oil pump gaskets that dont go through. To be sure, once you have gotten it installed check your oil pressure or you can look in the tank and see the return oil flowiing.
Good luck and happy riding
