Chrysler Repair: 1991 New Yorker 5th Ave., chrysler new yorker, keyless entry system

Question
Hi!  I hope you can help me.  I have a 1991 Chrysler New Yorker 5th Ave.  I have had nothing but problems with the alarm on this car.  The car will start but have the alarm lights going off but with no horn.  I have tried to lock and unlock the doors.  But I still have the alarm flashing lights. Could you please tell me how to disarm it.  Thank you soooo much,  Crysta

Answer
Hi Crysta,
Yes you can disconnect the security system but it is very important that when you do so that the engine IS Running at the moment you pull its 21-pin natural color plug from the module. If the engine isn't running when you pull the plug it will go into a deep lockdown which will likely require a tow to the Chrysler dealer to clear that situation. This is a security feature that stops thiefs from stealing the car by disconnecting the module.
To get to the module you need to remove the silencer pad located under the glove box opening at the lower edge of the dash. Then notice that when you open the glove box door there are screws all around the opening. Remove all the screws and box part will be removable from under the dash. You then have any empty glove box opening so that you can look behind and up where you will see bracket that runs laterally across the vehicle and on that bracket is where you will find the security module. To get to the plug-in that I described you may have to remove three screws to allow the bracket to drop down far enough to get at the plug. After you do that, start the engine and then and only then pull the natural color 21-wire plug out of the module. The other module that might be on that same bracket is for the remote keyless entry system but I don't believe that you have to do anything to it to defeat the theft system. Once you have it unplugged it is safe to shut off the engine and put everything back together.
Good luck on this project.
