Question -
My son has a 2004 Chrysler Sebring with a 2.7 v-6 engine.  My husband can not find the thermostat on the car.  His car has been overheating.  I know his car isn't the year that you normally answer questions on, but I thought maybe you could help.  My husband has replaced thermostats on cars before, but he said he can not find it on this one.
Answer -
Hi Linda,
I don't have a complete shop manual that shows the 2.7 engine but one drawing I have shows the temperature sensor that is usually positioned close to the thermostat is located where the fat top radiator hose is attached to the engine. It may be hidden below another part, but it has a tan/black and black/light blue 2-wire connector to it. That housing (where the temp sensor is located) probably also contains the thermostat.

Answer
Hi Linda,
The other place to look for the housing is in the line between the lower radiator hose and the engine. On the 2.5L V-6 the thermostat is in that part of the circuit.

Hi Linda,
I can only wonder if the thermostat might have been removed by a former owner (although being a 2004 your son may have bought the car new) and the problem is with the radiator or the water pump instead. Might there have been a flange inside the housing on the engine side that would have been there for the thermostat to sit in? You might also consider whether the issue is covered under the warranty for the vehicle. At least I think if they go to a Chrysler dealer's parts department they can look up the thermostat and its housing on a computer-based parts list and then they can show him where it is that way.
