Chrysler Repair: ignition key wont turn 98 stratus, snail mail, lock cylinder

Question
1998 dodge stratus es.  For the  past few months my ignition lock cylinder has been sticking. When i insert the ignition key into the lock cylinder the key will not turn at all. I have to rapidly move the key all around and in and out. eventually it  always seems to correct itself and the key will turn after a few moments of tinkering. Now, no matter how much fiddling i do It will not turn. I have the repair manual needed to replace the ignition lock, however in order to replace the part ill need to turn the key to the RUN position. Which is my problem in the first place. please help.

Answer
Hi Ashley,
About the only thing I can suggest is that in addition to tinkering with the key as you have done previously, that you might also try moving the gear selector for the automatic transmission to a different position or slightly off center from the position that it is in now. There is a cable between the shifter lever and the ignition switch which serves as an interlocking mechanism and that can get out of adustment and thus circumvent the normal operation of the lock cylinder. If that proves to be the case I have the '96 Cirrus shop manual which gives the procedure for adjusting the cable interconnection. Let me know and I will xerox and snail mail it to you.
