Chrysler Repair: General, thunderbird 3, 1995 ford thunderbird

Question
This is not a Chrysler question, but maybe you
can help me. I have a 1995 Ford Thunderbird 3.8L that I need to replace the oil pump on. I have never replaced an oil pump. Is there a lot to it. I know you have to drop the oil pan. Any other tips you can give me? Thanks alot!

Answer
Hi Tim,
The oil pump is so crucial to the engine that I would not try to change it without a shop manual for that specific engine. In my experience the Haynes line of manuals is quite reliable and less expensive than the corporate manual if you can't afford them. So go to an autoparts store or perhaps your local library and see if you can get a manual specifically for that engine and that mid 90's time frame. Without that you may waste a lot of time and energy and also damage the engine.
