Chrysler Repair: Valves, little bit of water, head gasket

Question
Hey Roland I was wondering something about my 1997 Chrysler LHS.  My water pump locked up, and my timing belt shredded some.  The car got hot, but only a little bit of water came out of the overflow.  Radiator seems fine too.  I was wondering if since it ran hot enough to shred the timing belt, if you think the valves might be warped.  Thank You

Answer
Hi Chad,
I think that is very unlikely if you didn't run the engine with low water and the temp gauge at the top end of its range for some time (minutes). It really would have to boil off majorly and the cylinder head get very hot to damage the valves. I would just keep an eye on the water level and also for any excessive water vapor (white smoke) from the tail pipe when you are ready to run it again, just in case a head gasket might have opened up and begun to leak. But that too is unlikely, based on what you said about the incident.
