Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Seibring axle repalcement, chrysler seibring, wheel hub

Question
I have a 1998 Seibring and I am trying to replace the drivers side axle. I have allready replaced the passanger side with no problems. I am having problems prying the asxle out of the transmision. any suggestions would be very helpful

Answer
Hi Kyle,
The manuals for the late '90s suggest that it is o.k. to use a prybar placed between the inner tripod joint housing that the transaxle housing case to 'lever' the shaft out of the trans. There is a snap ring that you have to overcome to get the two to separate. Support the outer end of the driveshaft which will already have been removed from the wheel hub. And be careful when removing the shaft not to drag the spline or snap ring across the oil seal for fear of damaging it. Pull straight out. When reinserting, make sure the snap ring catches and securely holds the shaft, you shouldn't be able to pull it out, it should be just as difficult as now if you have inserted it back in all the way.
