Chrysler Repair: 2002 Chrysler concorde, engine light on and poor gas mileage, poor gas mileage, chrysler concorde

Question
My engine light is on again a week after I took it in for repair.  The engine light was on before and they repaired the solenoid evaporative valve at a Chrysler dealership.  The car is also getting very poor gas mileage.  Any ideas on the light and extremely poor gas mileage.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Jeff,
The engine light means there is a fault code stored in the engine controller. I believe that this can only be read out with a code reader. Once you know the code number the possible cause and repair can be evaluated. If you don't go to Chrysler dealer an independent shop with a code reader may do the read out at a lower cost. Around here (No. Calif.) the advertised 'special' for such a readout is $40. If you get the code number(s) ask what it means and what the costs for correction would be. If you want to verify that with me write back and tell me the number of the code and we'll compare notes. Also mention which engine you have.
