Auto Insurance Claims: Car accident claim, car accident claim, middle car

Question
My mother just got into a 3 car accident where she was the middle car. The car in front filed a claim against our insurance to get her car fixed.  My mother filed a claim with her own insurance also.  It has been 3 weeks since the accident and we have not heard from our insurance company.  Is it too late to file a claim against the car behind us for our damages?  What exactly is the claim process?  Is it normal for a company not to call back or get in touch with us to start the claim investigation?

Answer
Hi Min,

Different insurance companies provide varying levels of service.

If the car behind your mother, hit your mother and pushed her into the car in front of her then the car that hiot your mother is responsible for all of the damage to your mothers car and the car in fron of her.  If on the other hand your mother hit the car in front of her first and then your mother was hit, your mother will be responsible for the car in front of her as well as the damage to the front of her car.  In either case you will need to stay on top of the insurance companies involved. If you expect a call in a couple of days and it does not come then you need to call them. If you do not get reasonable action then call and ask to speak to a supervisor or claims manager. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, so start making noise. Your mother should also file a claim with the insurance company of the car behind her.

I hope this helps
