Chrysler Repair: 1996 Neon, losing coolant, radiator system

Question
I have a 1996 Neon, 4 cyc, auto trans.  It runs great and everything works.
But, when you cut the engine off, it makes a gruggling sound, like it is boiling over or something. The Thremostat has been replaced and the temp is normal. The water level in the radiator system is normal.
What is going on?
Thank you,
Don

Answer
Hi Don,
If the gurggling sound is coming from the coolant recovery bottle then the radiator cap may not be holding the required 14 psi pressure. Check the cap, and the neck of the radiator for any deterioration of the gasket or damage to the cap/neck interface. You could simply buy a new cap to see if that helps. As long as you aren't losing coolant from the system I would not be too concerned about a little noise of fluid going in and later out of the overflow bottle back into the radiator, which is normal. There may be some air trapped in the system which will work its way out over time.
