I have a 1999 Chrys. Concorde LXi that I bought in January 2004. When summer came, I tried the AC and it would not blow cold air. Every time I would take it back to the dealer I bought it from (not a Chrysler dealer) they would tell me the AC was blowing about 35 degrees on its lowest temp. and they could not find a problem. Finally after taking it back for the 4th time, they contacted the local Chrysler dealer who told them that it was a defect in a certain part that has occurred in some of the same models. They replaced it last July and it worked fine the rest of that summer. Now it's a new summer and it's doing it again. It will blow cold at night and in the morning, but during the day, I will set it at about 65 degrees and it blows at about 75-80 degrees. Also, this winter my heater would blow hot air until I came to a stop at a light or stop sign and it would immediately start blowing cooler air, even when I had it on high. Of course, when I take it to a mechanic, the temp. is fine. I have been dealing with these problems pretty much since I have bought this car. Otherwise, it has operated with little problems.

I asked this question yesterday of another expert who suggested I take it back to the dealer and the possibly faulty part should be replaced for free, but I would like to actually have a suggestion as to what the problem might be so that I can go back to the mechanic with some basic knowledge. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated - thanks.

Hi again Liz,
After 'sleeping' on your question I have one suggestion that may be of help. The Heater/AC unit has a small self-diagnostic capability that you can avail yourself of. But how you get the unit to tell you what is wrong with it depends upon whether your car has the Automatic Temp Control unit (with the digital temp display) or just the conventional with variable knob settings (and no readout). Let me know which you have and I'll reply with the appropriate procedure for getting the answer as to what the unit itself sees as its problem.

I have a ATC with digital temp display. Thanks so much for your continued help with this - I did take it to the Chrysler dealership today because I had made this appnt. last week and I figured that if it WAS the same problem as last year and the part was again defective, then they better darn well replace it with no cost to me! But I did mention that blend door problem that you suggested as a possible cause. The guy just gave me a blank stare and said "yeah maybe". I don't know if it's a cliche to say they are talking to me like I'm an idiot just because I am a woman, or what, but it is really starting to aggrevate me, and I have to tell you that you have been more helpful than ALL of the mechanics I have had to deal with thus far! Thank you so much!

Our messages "crossed" in cyberspace. Let me know what they say or if you just left the shop angry with there non-answer, then try the self readout and get back to me with any codes.

Geez, at this point, I'm ready to marry you! Thanks so much and I will let you know what they say.

Answer
That is a flattering proposal! But I am "spoken for"; 45th anniversary comes up in July. In any case I'm 'all ears' about your A/C. Cheers!

P.S. I don't know how the site counts messages, whether each exchange counts as a new question might sometimes put me in the 'maxed out' category. If that issue is not an impairment to responding, because you can reply to a pre-existing response from me, then the point is moot. But I usually try to keep ahead of the daily limit, without getting swamped. Worse comes to worse contact me at rfinston@pacbell.net
