Chrysler Repair: 97 Chrysler Cirrus water pump, crank pulley, chrysler cirrus

Question
As I am discovering the water pump is behind the timing cover/belt. How difficult is this job and time consuming. Are any pictures/diagrams available for this car. 2.5L 4cy

Answer
Hi Francisco,
Just to be clear, the 2.5L is a 6 cyl engine, as far as I understand. I happen to have the '96 Chrysler shop manual that shows how to remove and replace the timing belt. Once you get it off the waterpump is right there for the changing. You have to remove the accessory belts, the belt covers, the crank pulley, and separate the right engine mount (if you want to replace the belt, otherwise that may not be necessary?), and the belt tensioner. Then there is a fairly specific procedure for getting the belt on so as to have the pulleys all aligned.
I have not done this job so I can't speak from personal experience. Those who have the similarly designed Mitsubishi 3.0L V-6 used in the late 80's to mid 90's seem to get the job done though it is a bit of a challenge to get the belt on, probably becasue they don't have a good manual I suspect.
I would be pleased to xerox copy and postal mail you the pages that show and describe the job. I can get copies for 5 cents per side, and so if you would reimburse me for those costs and the postage that would be appreciated. Just let me know your mailing address. Also verify that you have the 2.5 V-6 engine.
