Chrysler Repair: sevice engine light on telling..., torque converter clutch, code 37

Question
sevice engine light on telling me code 37 which is torque converter clutch /trans relay circuit

Answer
Hello Bobby,
You didn't say which engine and transmission you have so I can't be specific. If that 37 is the only cause for the light it is not a major problem, it just means that the gas saving feature of the torque converter being locked up (the two turbines turn at the same speed, no slipping = less fuel use) feature will not happen when you get the car going over 40-45 mph. You can check the plug for the solenoid circuit at the transmission to make sure it is attached and the terminals are clean for good electrical contact. If usually is a two wire plug on the front of the transmission, near the dipstick, depending upon which trans you have. Let me know if you can't find it. You will know if you fixed it because the tach will drop a bit a 40-45 or you will feel a slight pause when the turbines lock together. Otherwise no such feeling or tach drop will occur. Many cars with turbos don't have this feature, so it probably may not be worth  repairing, unless gas goes to $5.00/gal The light may not go off until 50 -100 key on-off cycles after you fix it, if you do, or you can disconnect the battery for a few minutes, which erases all codes except 12 (which says the battery was recently disconnected)
