Chrysler Repair: the convertible top to my LeBaron, mr roland, convertible owners

Question
Hello Mr. Roland,
I hope it is ok I am writing again- the advice was great and so I thought you might have some insight.
A while ago now, the top to my convertible stopped working. At first it would only work sometimes, and then completely stopped. I can hear the niose of the motor trying to work , but it won't move at all. I have a '95 Crysler LeBaron. I can't think of any other symptoms it was displaying before hand, or anything else it will do or that seems odd now.
I am also having a hard time finding someone to fix it, as I assume it may have something to do with the hydrolics?
Thank you again for your time twice over.

Answer
Hi Virginia,
Thanks for the generous comments. It is good that the motor sounds like it is working because that is quite often the reason for non-function of the top mechanism. I would suspect the hydraulic system too, and I would begin with examining the reservoir for the level of fluid that it contains. It should be full to the level of the opening. I would be sure to get the fluid type recommended in the owner's manual, and also look around to see if there is any sign of a leak that could be corrected by tightening a fitting.
I personally don't have experience with the convertible LeBaron, my '89 is a coupe body. But there are lots of convertible owners in a Yahoo autos group that I am a part of and I'll bet if you post there you will get a detailed instruction from one of them.
