Chrysler Repair: dash gauges, chrysler cirrus, 95 chrysler cirrus

Question
its a 95 chrysler cirrus 6 cyl. the prob. is all the gauges went out . they are machanical gauges . i checked the fuses and they where good if u could give me some tips i would appriciate it.

Answer
Hi Thomas,
I would recheck the fuses, particularly if you can find one that is 'assigned' to the instrument cluster, and verify that it is really good by substituting another one of the same size. Sometimes these fuses can fatigue (the wire breaks but it looks o.k.). If that checks out, then you would want to remove the gauge cluster and check the wires at the plugs to make sure that you are getting 12v (when the ignition switch is "on") at the dark blue/white wire, and also check with an ohmmeter that the ground wire is grounded (with the ignition off so as not to short out something, black/orange or black/light green wire). That is the basic electrical connections for the gauges to operate.
I don't have the '95 diagrams, but rather the '94 for other models than the Cirrus, but the color coding should be similar and the design concept identical to what I have described.
