Chrysler Repair: Radiator/ AC fans stay running, chrysler new yorker, ohv engine

Question
I have a 1991 Chrysler New Yorker 3.3 L V6 OHV
engine with 108,000 miles. My question relates to the the radiator/AC fans not shutting off after the vehicle is turned off . I must unplug
the electrical connectors to secure. The coolant
gauge show temp. is within normal operating range. Can a short or a relay be at fault. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Bob,
The fan relay looks like the prime candidate for your problem. The activating coil of the relay should be inactivated when you turn off the ignition switch, so the main current contacts inside the relay are probably touching eachother even when the coil is "dead". Current to run the fans is available to the relay even though the ignition switch is off. So I would try replacing the relay (the fan should go off when you remove the relay). And I expect a new relay will solve the problem. In the power distribution center under the hood, usually on the driver side, you will find 9 relay sockets arranged in a square; the fan relay is the one in the forward-right corner of the nine (may be numbered "10", because there is another relay on the left side of the box called "7").
