Classic/Antique Car Repair: 31 ford, model a restorers club, model a ford club

Question
I have a 31 5 window with rumble seat It is in great condition but I do not have confidence that it will start when i get it away from home, so I never drive it.
It was flooding and I put a new carb in. Basically it seems like I run out of battery before i get it started sometimes. I thought of changing to 12 volts but would rather it be stock if it will start consistently. I live in College Station Texas and would like to take it to someone to get it really setup to run good and start easily. Is there someone in Texas I could take it to for this?  cmc

Answer
I can't help you on who to take it to, but if you can find and join a local model a club, you would be all set. They would have all the answers. Go to YouTube.com and search for jackbahm and you will find a lot of videos I made on the A. Also, go to blurb.com and search again for jackbahm and there is a book I wrote on the A. You don't have to buy it. I set it up for a full review on line. That should help. Don't go to 12 volts. If you get it running good, it will start easy every time. I would put a 6 volt alternator on it. We all have and it makes life a lot easier. Easy to put on.  There are 8 model A clubs in Texas. Search for Marc, model a restorers club, and you will see where they are.  They are near:  Austin, Addison, fort worth, Houston, spring, mcCallen, Tyler, and victory.
Check all this out and get back to me for more help. Good luck. Jack
Ps, also search for MAFCA. Model a ford club of America.  That is the other national club and they may have a club close to you.
