Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1950 Plymouth decode vin, old plymouths, seat cushions

Question
Hi Brad,
I saw where you answered a question regarding a 50 Plymouth and I want to decode a vin for my friend's 50 Plymouth. Can you give me a breakdown of the numbers?  I want to know if it shows the date the car was built.
Thanks,
Andy

Answer
The VIN on this old Plymouth is not set up to give a production date. But is this is an original old car we my have a trick or two. On some of these old Plymouths the factory stuffed the build sheet for the car up under one of the seat cushions. This may have the production date on it. You will need to lay on the floor and look up under the seats with a light. If it is not in the front seat pull the rear seat cushion out and look under there.
