Classic/Antique Car Repair: 55 buick special, Starter Switch on gas pedal.

Question
my father in law has a 55 buick special with a 264 and the contact switch for starting the car is burnt out ( when you press the pedal to the floor to engage the starter ) was wondering where i can find one to replace the bad one . thanks for the help

Answer
This device was made by Carter, and is called a "Starterator".  These were used on Buicks and Packards.   Usually, they can be repaired, but are somewhat tricky to fix.  For a new one, try the following vendors.

The first place I would try is called "The Carburetor Shop" in Eldon, MO.  They may have new ones available.

If they cannot help you, try Kanter Brothers in Boonton New Jersey.  A Google search should turn up both places, but if not, ask me and I'll dig it out for you.
