Classic/Antique Car Repair: order on distributor cap, clock position, distributor cap

hey thanks. when looking at the origional distributor cap where do i start from? i thought there was an indicator to tell where to start but doesnt appear to be anywhere on the cap. thanks again for the useful information.

Basically Ford used a mark on the distributor car but that is not always accurate. There is more than one car out there that is running around after some one had the distributor out and installed it in a different clock position. The best way to find the wiring sequence is to bring the engine up to top dead center on compression. The look at the rotor and see which terminal it is pointing at. That is number one.
