Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1979 chev 1/2 ton pick-up, fuel tanks, fuel inlet

Question
QUESTION: Do 1979 chevey 1/2 ton custom deluxe 350 v8 pick-ups have fuel filters, and if so where are they located?

ANSWER: If the truck is stock and has not been tampered with the fuel filter is located in the carburetor fuel inlet. To get at it remove the fuel line from the carburetor and then the big nut that the fuel line is screwed into. Behind it should be the fuel filter.

QUESTION: THIS ENGINE WILL NOT RUN ,ITS NOT GETTING FUEL TO THE FUEL PUMP, IF WE POUR GAS IN THE CARBIRATOR IT WILL RUN, IT ALSO HAS DUEL TANKS, WHAT DO YOU THINK COULD BE CAUSING THIS PROBLEM?

Answer
The diagnostic route that I would take is as follows:
1. Check the inlet side of the for vacuum when the engine is cranking. There should be about 11 inch as measured on a vacuum gage. It is vacuum that moves the fuel from the fuel tank to the fuel pump. If there is vacuum then the fuel pump is working. No vacuum then the fuel pump is defective. If there is vacuum I usually make a line up from the inlet side( the side that goes to the tank),and run it into a gas can outside the vehicle. If the fuel pump draws fuel and the engine starts then you know that you have a problem in the fuel tanks, fuel lines, or valves check the lines and the valve that control which tank the fuel is being drawn from.
