Motorcycle Repair: rocker arms, fxst, rocker arms

Question
hi, i have a 05 sortail fxst, that has a little rocker noise, when the engine is first started when cold you can put your ear down by the rocker box and faintly hear the rockers, but when riding in 90degree temps i can realy hear the rockers when stoped at a traffic light. is this normal or is there some thing deffintly wrong in the rocker box"s.

Answer
That noise you are hearing is due to the valve lash in the pushrods. Harleys are known for a little noise in the top end. Its due to the fact that the pushrods are not internal, so you can hear them. When you first start the bike they lifters ahve to pump up.  When its really hot and you stop, the oil is thin and they make a little more noise. If you havent already, you can switch to a synthetic
oil which might help. the noise really doesnt hurt anything, but if it starts getting louder, then you need to get it checked.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
