Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1949 Studebaker guage cluster removal, Studebaker Truck question

Question
I need to remove the guage cluster housing/panel from the dash board in my 1949 R5 pick up, what is the best way to remove with no damage to the panel?

Answer
I don't have reference books on trucks, and since Studebaker trucks are not made the same way as the cars, I'm sorry to say I don't have much knowledge or experience with these vehicles.

I did own a 49 Studebaker truck for years, though, and it seems to me that access to the gauge cluster was from the engine compartment, through an opening in the cowl above the firewall.  If yours is like this, just use a strong light and look for the mounting hardware - and deal with it like any other mechanical item (that is, with care and planning).

If you are a member of the Studebaker Driver's Club, you already know the following, (and if not, you should be!)   They have a tech support service which is excellent - and you can access it by e-mailing Ingvar Vik at ijvik@msn.com   He is the truck guy - and knows more than I will ever know about them.

Sorry, I'm the wrong guy for this one!
