Classic/Antique Car Repair: timing chain, timing chain cover, note position

Question
Can you tell me how to change a timing chain on a 232 motor that I am putting into a 1984 CJ7? Thank you.

Answer
Very briefly.

Set your timing mark to zero (tdc) with the distributer pointing to number one plug wire. Disonnect positive bttery cable at battery and drain radiator.

Since each model is different, you would need a manual specific to your model for exact detail, but essentially remove everything blocking the timing chain cover....water pump, belts, hoses, etc.

Remove timing chain cover. Note position of gears. Replace with timing marks aligned.

Clean all mounting surfaces thoroughly and use silicone when re-assembling
