Classic/Antique Car Repair: vehicle wobble, bad cv joints, ball joints

Question
I'm restoring a 72 cutlass conv. I have repalced the shocks, springs, brakes new transmission new steering column.new steering gear box, new tires rims. I had all the ball joints visually checked and was told they looked find. I was told it may be the rear end but I hear no noise from that area. The car drives find at highway speeds but seem's to want to wobble up to about 40 mph. Do you have any idea why this could cause the car to  shake. Fred ledigs@bellsouth.net

Answer
Hi Fred:
This is be any number of reasons. Let me give you the list and you will have to do a little detective work to pinpoint the exact cause.
Let start with the easiest to the hardest to fit.

1. Wheel out out balance?
2. Uneven tire wear cause by out of balance condition
3. Bulge in tire from sitting too long?
4. Bent or damaged rim?
5. Bad CV joints or tire rods

Because you used the term "Wobble" and not vibrate, I'm guessing it's a bad tire or rim.
