Classic/Antique Car Repair: Airbags, pontiac gto, feasible option

Question
I will be turning 16 in the near future and have begun looking for a car.  My dad
and I found a relatively inexpensive 1969 Pontiac GTO (8 cylinder automatic)
that is for sale pretty close to where we live.  However, my dad does not want
me driving a car with minimal safety features.  I wanted to know how much it
would cost to get airbags installed in a car such as this (if thats feasible).

Answer
Hi Joe:
Sorry, but airbags in a 1969 GTO is not a feasible option. The technology to retro-fit a car that old most likely don't even exist. Airbags wasn't even introduced until 1980 and they was optional only on high-end cars back then.

There is a retro-fit kit for cars 1987 and newer, but that's it. And they are describe as not as good as the mfg installed bags.

Retro-fitted you car with a shoulder seat belt instead of the lap belt may be more practical, but with a bit more protection.
