Classic/Antique Car Repair: 66 nova ignition switch?, screw ring, faxon

I am trying to replace the ignition switch, however I cannot seem to get the front screw ring off the main housing. It unscrews all the way to the end but will not come off. Am I missing something that releases this bezel? thanks in advance.

No, I don't recall that there is anything to prevent it from coming all the way off.  Perhaps there is a messed up thread on the switch, or something else is in the way.

If you have the replacement switch, you can look at it to see if you can see any reason why the bezel would not come off.

As a last resort, you can get a copy of the shop manual for the car from one of the literature dealers (I use Ed Faxon at www.faxonautolit.com but there are many others).   If you are going to be maintaining this car, you should have one anyway.  The removal of the ignition switch will be shown in great detail in the shop manual.
