Classic/Antique Car Repair: 85 olds cutlass, air fuel mixture, olds cutlass

Question
QUESTION: I have the above, showroom, just put a 383 stroker in it pulled out all original componants, but check eng. lite on dash is now on, any thoughts on how to put it out, thanks ,FRANK

ANSWER: Hi Frank:
I assumed you reconnected all the sensors to the new engine. If not, the light maybe on for that reason. If everything is connected correctly, then the new engine is not meeting the computer specs that controls the check-engine light. Most importantly, air/fuel mixture and exhaust emission.

QUESTION: Hi Vern, no there is nothing at all put on this motor, zip, pure HP, i took everything out except computer,if i take that out will that solve it? thanks

Answer
Yes. That and removing the bulb or fuse will turn the light off. Keep in mind, many states inspection still inspect automobiles older than 1996 with an exhaust sensor in the tail pipe to determine CO2 emissions. Also if a check engine light is on, it won't pass inspection. So check your state laws before removing the computer or see if your new engine can be connected properly to the computer.
