QuestionI have a 63 Plymouth with a 318 engine. I havent started it for 3 years. I've been looking for a replacement carb. I've got it now.
What precautions should I take before cranking it now?

Don't touch it, unless you prepared it for storage three years ago.
After sitting for 3 years, the first (and most important) thing to do is drain and replace ALL fluids (Oil, Transmission, Brake, Power Steering, Antifreeze, and yes, fuel). Also, if you didn't remove the battery 3 years ago, its most likely dead too. Charge it or put a new one in. At this point you can try to start her, but turn the engine over a few short times just to lubricate the cylinders, lifters and valves before trying long cranks.
Depending on how well she runs, you may or may not need...plugs, points and wires.
And finally you will need to check for rusted or linkage that may be frozen. I can of WD-40 will help with the emergency brake linkage and carb linkage and accelerator linkage. Also check hoses for wear.
In otherworlds, if she runs, drive her like a new car until you are sure everything works as it should. Bring an old back to life after 3 years, just requires patient and love.
