Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1958 Primer for Pontiac Cheiftain 2Door, rust inhibitor, gm cars

Can you tell me what kind of primer was used on the 58 Pontiac? The car has been sitting in a salavage yard for over 25 years and the primer looks better than what they use today. Can you help???also should i use a rust prohibator??

GM cars in that era were painted in lacquer and run a lacquer based primer. The primer that should be used under any paint is one that is recommended by the maker of the pain to be used. They are then chemically compatible. Again with the rust inhibitor get the technical sheets from the paint maker.
