Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1967 Ford Mustang Transmission, ford mustang, drive shaft

Question
I have a 67 Mustang with a 289 engine. It has an automatic 3 speed transmission which leaks.  I've been told that my front and rear seals need to be replaced.  I'm wondering if just replacing the seals is ok or if it would be a good idea to have the transmission rebuilt all together.  Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

Answer
This is one of those cases that it is an "in my opinion". You are going to have to remove the transmission from the car to replace the front seal. The rear one can be done from under the cat after removing the drive shaft. In my opinion the hard work is done and the car is 40 years old. I would go though the transmission while it is out of the car and at least replace all of the seals and O rings as well as the bands and clutches. Good luck.
