Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1968 Camaro door spring installation, 68 camaro, 1968 camaro

Question
Howdy!  I got my 68 Camaro back from the painter in slightly more than basket case condition (that's another story).  The body is assembled except for the chrome, etc. which I will finish up.  However, I noticed he didn't put the springs in the doors.  The hinges were rebuilt. The doors and fenders are aligned perfectly.  I really don't want to remove the doors, mainly in fear of nicking the paint.  And I don't want to remove the hood and fenders because I'll never get it aligned again. And I don't want to scratch anything!  How do I get these springs in place without doing any damage or taking the whole car apart again?   Thanks for you help!

Answer
I have been known to put the springs in a vise and squash it. Then with the spring compressed wire it in that position with mechanics wire. Then install the shortened spring and once in place cut the wire and remove the wire.. It might work for you.
