Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1966 mustang not starting, engine cranks, wd 40

Question
It has the Sprint 200, I've verified the battery is good, cables are good, it is in Park, and there is fresh fuel in the tank.  When I turn the key, the engine cranks and cranks, but does not turn over.  I also verified there is gas in the carburetor, as there was a spray during the cranking.  I poured a small amount of gas into the carburetor, turned the key and the engine turned over and ran for about 5 seconds.  I appreciate any ideas!  thanks, Kyle

Answer
The fact that the engine started and ran, even briefly, when you supplied gas manually proves that your problem is not ignition related - the only remaining possiblilty is that the carburetor is not supplying fuel to the engine.   This could be due to a stuck inlet valve on the carburetor, or some other obstruction in the fuel line.

Prove this to yourself by getting a can of WD-40, and have someone try to start the car while you spray short puffs of WD-40 into the air inlet on the air cleaner - from what you say, I think the engine will start.

You will have to have someone inspect the carburetor and the fuel pump to see why gas is not flowing as it should.   The fact that there is still some gas in the carburetor doesn't mean it is present at the right internal orifice, at the right time and pressure to make the car run.
