Classic/Antique Car Repair: wheel advise, chrysler windsor, oversized tires

I just bought a 1950 Chrysler Windsor (4 door) but having trouble getting tires to fit on the front, the tire rubs on the tie rod.  Any suggestions?

It would appear that the problem is one of two possible things. First some one may have changed the wheels on the car. And secondly you might have oversized tires. The wheel offset for each make of car is different. Just because the bolt pattern fits does not mean that is the correct wheel for the car. Are the wheels the original wheels? Are you trying to install a radial low profile tire?
