Classic/Antique Car Repair: 62 galaxie, gas tank, nail file

Question
have a 62 galaxie that has been sitting for 4 years need to know about the 352 2 barrel engine to get car started

Answer
4 years is long enough that the gas has probably gone bad, and you should drain the gas tank and refill it with fresh gas - otherwise it may start and run but the gummy gas may cause a valve to stick and cause an expensive problem.

Once you've done that, and changed the oil and oil filter, you can try to start the engine.  Put a about one ounce of gas down the front of the carburetor, and put the air cleaner back on in case it spits fire. Then crank the engine to see if it tries to start.

It may start right up and run, or it might start and die, or it might not do anything.

If it cranks but makes no other attempt to start, the chances are the points need to be cleaned. The best thing to do is replace the points and condenser, but you might get away with just cleaning the points with a metal nail file.  Don't use sandpaper or anything like that, so you don't get any grit on them.

Do all that, and then report back to me and we'll see what the next step should be.  Be sure to top up the cooling system before you run it for more than a minute or so.
