Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1967 Dodge Cornet Transmission leak, 1967 dodge cornet, silicone sealant

Question
I have a 1967 Dodge Cornet with a 440 and a 727. I drive the car about once every two weeks. I recently replaced the pan gasket and filter on the transmission. It didn't leak for about a month and now it is leaking worse than before I replaced the gasket. I cleaned the surfaces very well and used a torque wrench when I assembled it. How can I keep it from leaking again?

Answer
The newer gaskets are harder material than those when this car was designed. You are going to have to remove pan, clean with solvent both surfaces, then apply silicone sealant to both, You can put the gasket on the pan on top of the silicone. Then let it dry for 24 hours before re-installing.

My oldest son tried many things on his truck pan before doing it "Dad's way". He is smarter now.
