Classic/Antique Car Repair: 54 pontiac, harmonic balance, correct path

Question
have a 54 chieften stright 8 31,000 original miles always garage kept just never run in fact found an oil change sticker 1988 milage was 30,100 so brakes, exchust, the usual but in doing some research i find there were all sorts of problems related to this and other stright 8's harmonic balance not the least. the motor was heavy and long enougt to sag under its own weight so pontiac came up with some kind of a "bolt on brace" what the heck are they talking about? i plan to wire portable temp. diagnostic gear and see if i can get to the bottom of this balance issue, however this brace has me a bit stumped. and i can't seem to find a explanation concerning oil. sticking with st. 30 as called for is this the correct path? useing lead sub. now that's not a mistake is it? thanks a bunch mark oh yea i have a machine shop so.. parts can be modified etc.
