Question
I did a engine swap on my 1950 chevy 216 for a 54 235. I would like to if there is a differance in the distributor? do I need to get a 54 dist.?  also what is a normal time for the valves to seat my car is smoking like a train with one hundred miles. thanks Jim

Answer
JIM
; HI wel if there was any differance it would be in length  so it would work or not. as far as the smoke how were the valve seals, are they all dried up? if you only have 100 miles on it I hope you put new piston rings on it and than honed the cylenders, and you should have some 30 wt. oil in it and it will take till 1000 for a good break in timeI would ADD a CAN of STP to the oil. I just do not know why so much smoke, do you have all hoses hooked up and vacume hooked up. The timming will have nothing to do with all of that smoke it will only make it run good or bad, try it at 6 or 8 above tdc.  the smoking might go away,I wonder how the head was prior to putting it on. was it old and dried up?
