Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1966 Cadillac wiring diagram needed, power antenna, power trunk

Question
Sir......Have owned this car since 1981....no electrical problems other than starter motor in November 2004.

Parked it a week ago in garage.  Nest dayh...dead battery....disconnected positive lead and charged it.  Was really puzzled. When lead touched battery terminal....big spark...everything off, but big current drain.

Have isolated the current flow by disconnecting all wires to starter motor.....the lead from the BATTERY terminal on the starter motor to the rest of the system shows the erroneous current flow.  Everythins in car is turned OFF....Ignition key is OFF.  Headlights are OFF.

I have many manuals, even a 1968 Chiltons....NO usable wiring diagrams. If I had one, I could chase the problem.

Thanks for your time and expertise.

Answer
I agree, you need to get the factory shop manual.

Contact Ed Faxon at:(800)458-2734 - he will have the manual.

In the meantime, disconnect the body feed to all the stuff that works with the key off (seats, windows, lighters etc.) My guess is that one of your window or seat switches is stuck in the "on" position, and has probably fried the motor or the wiring by now.  Perhaps someone pushed in a cigarette lighter and it didn't pop out the way it is supposed to.

It has to be something that is alive with the key off - maybe even the power antenna, door locks, or power trunk lid, if the car has those items.
