Classic/Antique Car Repair: Ford electrial question, fuel gauge, temp gauge

Question
I see your specailty is late 50's Fords. Maybe you can help me with my 65' Mustang question. The temp gauge keeps going to full hot as soon as I turn the key over. The car is cold but the gauge shows hot. I have changed the sensor and volt reg behind the dash. What I have noticed also is that the fuel gauge does to same thing. I'm not sure of the fullness of the gas tank but I don't believe it close to full. I was told to check the cluster too see if properly grounded.. Any suggestions Dave. Thanks for your time.. Gordon

Answer
Hi Gordon,

Thanks for giving me a try.  Rather than type up the whole story of temperature gauges and their faults, the following article (sorry, it's about mopars!) shows both the trouble shooting tests and the "why's" of the gauges.  I hope you find it helpful.
