GMC Repair: Tires rotated weird, rotating tires, crayola crayons

Question
Hello,

I have a Saturn ION 2003, and took it to a shop to rotate & balance the tires.
Before going, I marked the tires with crayola crayons as follows:

(Front of car looked at from the top)
DF          PF

DR          PR

where:

P=passenger side
D=driver side
F=front
R=rear

the rotation pattern for my car manual should be as follows:

Passenger Rear goes to -> P.Front
P.F. -> Driver R.
D.R. -> D.F.
D.F -> P.R.

therefore after rotating the tires should end up as follows:

DR          PR

PF          DF

but I don't know why after having the tires rotated at this shop my tires are now like this:

DR          PR

DF          PF

Can driving after rotating the tires like this cause some damage?
Is there a reason to rotate the tires like that different from manufacturer's suggestion?

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Rick

Answer
Hi
This is the way most shops rotate tires front to rear same side.
Most shops will state they keep the tires on the same side so the "bands
dont unwind". If the tires are rotated properly at the correct intervals,
then rotating them as your owners manual states will be fine.
You'll need to ask the shop to rotate them as per your manual.
Rotating tires as you state rears to front, same side, and crossing the rears, will make them wear evenly and last longer.
(as long as alignment angles are within specs)
Hope this helps.
