Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1933 Packard, restoration books, restoration shops

Question
Hi Dick,

Have any info on replacing the soft top section on a 902 Coupe? Any good restoration books or advice on this subject?

Anything you could provide would be a great help.

Thanks,
Jeff

Answer
While I've owned many Packards (and still do), I have not faced this particular restoration task myself, so I hesitate to give you advice.  I think you will find that the design is rather simple, but you need the right material and trim molding to make the job look right, and I suspect you are going to need professional help to get a satisfactory result.   There are restoration shops all over the country, but I don't know where you live, so I don't know one to recommend.   You could ask around fellow Packard club members with pre-steel top cars (Generally, closed cars built before about 1940 for Senior Packards) to find out where they have had this work done.   If you post a follow up question with your location, I will see if there is any shop I can recommend for you to take the car to.

I don't know of any books that cover this task, but I am not really very knowledgeable about what books are out there.

I'm sorry not to be more help.  The 902 is one of my favorite designs!

Good Luck to you.

Dick
