Classic/Antique Car Repair: Odd size piston, spray oil, odd size

Question
--Roger
I checked with my buddy and the chip(small) is on the side of the piston where the rings are.That was his main worry.Do you still think it would be OK to put it back in? The car is just a 'summer beater' for the city-no long highway driving.

Answer
hi;
   ok its on the side of it well as long as the (rings) can still do thier job I would say ok as I dont have a photo of it or I cant see it but if your Friend has taken it apart and is doing all of this with or for you I think he does know what he is doing so again I say as long as the rings can do thier job with out breaking or anything else and if you are only using it  to go here and there I would say go for it I would most likly do it too.But when you have it together and running  be shure to take a compression test on ALL cylds. and look to see what that one is doing and compair it to the rest and as long as it is up there in psi I would say let it be and just remember that it has that chip and do not try to hot rod the engine as it is only a six ok.And be shure to use good oil and when you put the engine together spray oil or lube it when you put it together again keep all parts real clean and lubed and toqure everything that should be -rods-mains-etc. and do it a few times when you toqure the parts re-check each toqure and you should be fine with it.
ok and good luck
