Classic/Antique Car Repair: Leaky water pump, jb weld, grease fitting

Question
I recently bought a kit and rebuilt the water pump on my 1951 Nash Ambassador Custom (overhead valve six) but it is already leaking again.  It leaks around the shaft that connects to the generator.  It has a grease fitting which has been thoroughly greased - no help.  Do you know of anything I can do?

Answer
My guess is that the case is rusted or pitted and the new seal is unable to fit tight enough all the way around to stop the leaking.   I think you are going to have to inspect the seal area again, and if it looks to be in bad shape, you're going to have to find another water pump.  If you absolutely cannot find a better pump body, you can try to repair this one with JB Weld, then have it machined back to the right diameter.
