Dodge Repair: dodge grand caravan 2002: trans no shift, dodge grand caravan, transmission control module

Question
QUESTION: transmission sometimes won;t shift and jergs at times downshifting too.

ANSWER: Hi Fred,
Get a fault code readout of the transmission controller memory either by;
turning the ignition switch:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time, then watch the odometer window to see if the mileage reading is replaced by a 4-digit number preceded by a P. Let me know it if it does;
or go to a nationwide autoparts store, such as Autozone and ask for a free fault code readout and find out the numbers that way.
We'll go from there once you have any numbers.

QUESTION: p1689  p0700  p0442  p0455

Answer
Hi Fred,
There is no listing for 1689. Look again to see if it rather might be 1698. The 1698 says that the digital information messages from the transmission control module are not being received by the rest of the digital units (such as the engine control module) and that in an of itself could explain your problems of shifting. This could be a failure of the transmission control module or a problem with the wires that connect it to the rest of the units on the digital data network.
The 0442 and 0455 says there is a leak in the gas vapor fume recovery system, probably a loose/disconnected hose clamp or cracked hose, so those connections and hoses should be checked out.
The 0700 means there is another code about the transmission which may be referring to the 1698 if that is the true code that you have.
So far it doesn't appear to be a problem with the transmission itself, but rather the communication from the transmission controller to the digital data system.
