Dodge Repair: 97 Dodge Stratus Manual Overrheating., roland roland, temp gauge

Question
QUESTION: About A Week Ago When I Was Pumping Gas I Realized That My Gas Tank Had Shifted A Little Bit I Have No Idea If This Has Anything To Do With The Overheating But I Thought I Would Add It Just In Case.
So I Noticed That When I Start Driving Everything Is Fine For A Few Miles Then Out Of Nowhere My Heat Temperature On The Car Goes All The Way Red Bar And My Overheating Light Comes On. So I Went To Turn On My Heat The First Time This Happened And Realized That I Have Absolutely No Heat.
All Of The Fluids Were Checked Last Week And Nothing Was Leaking Or Needed To Be Filled.
Any Idea On What This Could Possibly Be?

ANSWER: Hi Jamie,
I would recheck the cooling system overflow bottle to verify that there is reserve coolant.  If the fluid is filling system then the overheating and lack of heat may mean that the water pump has stopped working (or the belt that drives it is broken but on all the engines that are possible if that belt broke (the timing belt) the engine wouldn't run at all). Tell me which engine you have when you write back, and tell me what you find as regards the coolant bottle and whether you find any external links. Has the heat worked in the restent past? Touch the 2 hoses that go through the firewall at the midline and supply/return coolant to the heater core. They both should be warm. If neither is warm was the temp gauge rises then it would appear that the coolant is not being circulated through the system so the engine overheats.
It is possible that the thermostat is stuck closed as another explanation. I assume that you haven't driven it in the overheated status so as to avoid damage.

QUESTION: So I Did Find That The Coolant Had In Fact Run Out. Which Is Now Fixed. But Now I Have Another Problem. My Car Now Will Not Go In Reverse. And I Have No Idea As To Why It Wont. It Makes Things Very Difficult.

ANSWER: Is this a manual or an automatic transmission? Have you determined where the coolant may have gone?

QUESTION: It Is A Manual Transmission. I Have A 4 Cylinder Engine. And We Found No Leak Apparently Was Just Running Low. Must Not Have Gotten Checked Like I Previously Thought It Had Been.

Answer
Hi Jamie,
It is shifts into reverse but won't move in reverse then that is an internal transmission issue.
If you are saying that you cannot access the reverse gear position then I would start by doing an adjustment of the 'cross over cable' that connects the shift lever to crossover lever at the transmission.
I will need to copy those pages and postal mail them to you so send a follow-up and tell me your mailing address.
