Hi Roland-

I have a 1982 Chrysler convertible and sometimes the top will not go up with out help. I would like to check the fluid but where/how? I have the 1982 factory service manuals but they have no info on convertibles (mid year model?). If low, what do I fill it with?

Hi Jim,
According to the '83-on manuals there is a reservior for the fluid which is part of the hydraulic pump/motor assembly. With the top up remove the cap on the reservoir and observe the fluid level. Add Dexron II, type A Transmission fluid to fill the resevoir to the top. If low, look for leaks along the hydraulic lines and at the two hydraulic cylinders. The mechanism is in the trunk but it is not clear to me if you access it through the trunk lid opening, or by removing a panel just behind the rear seat back.
