Dodge Repair: no start after replacing fuel/lifter pump., diesel repair shop, overflow check

Question
hi,
i own a 2005 ram 3500 diesel, a 6 cylinder 5.7L 24 valve.
i had to replace the lifter pump, and choose to replace the fuel filter as well, i understand that air has entered the system when i did my repair, and i followed the bleeding instructions that i read here about bleeding 3,4,5 cylinders, but have had no success, i have very little diesel coming out from the lines, i have checked and the fuel filter is full with no air and the fuel line up to the high pressure pump have fuel and no air as far as i can tell, but the high pressure pump and beyond have little pressure or air still. I've tried several times to bleed already(passed 2 days). and still when i open the railing to the injectors no pressure and its foaming.
what else can i do to remove the air out of the system, or could it be the high pressure pump went bad at the repair?
thanks

Answer
Although it is possible that the high pressure pump has failed due to the failed lift pump, I would replace the overflow check vavle on the injection pump before I condemned the pump. If this valve is stuck in the open position it will not allow enough fuel to stay in the pump and the pump will then not be able to build enough pressure to open the injectors. The check valve is located on the return line connector that comes off the back of the pump and is available from any dealership or diesel repair shop.
